I love how you mentioned the turn he made at “and so the people bowed and prayed…..to the neon god they’d made”. It was righteous anger, like Jesus storming the temple and overturning the tables of the merchants, money-changers, and charlatans. Simon & Garfunkel’s original (brilliant) was more a wistful lamentation of what we had become. David, by the final verse, turned the song into an admonishment (admonition?) of humanity, or lack thereof. “Pull your heads out of your asses, people!”

Sometimes great singers don't know how great they are personally. I feel it almost a blessing record companies didn't get their hands on her and her band. She was stubborn yes, but to keep all those wonderful styles she could sing was pretty amazing rather than being stuck in a pidgeon hole. She is a truly amazing vocalist.

Only she can start at an 8 and build up because she knows how to ride a wave that touches our hearts at the smoothest frequency

Imo her version of this in the green 97X room was the best or my favorite at least. Also, her black and white acoustic version of "Decode" is incredible and certainly worth a reaction. 🫡

I would suggest you do two things ..... HEAR with listener engagement ..... the other thing is do not sing what EVA Cassidy just did as if you are replicating the Lyric line in examination .... you simply have not the vocal gift for that. Please know that your knowledge is appreciated .... just needs a little respectful reaction ! GBjj

IMHO Mr Cohen actually got better with age. Perhaps not from a vocal coach perspective but it gave his songs even more gravitas in a way. I love that you pointed out that he never wanted to be a musician. When he won his Juno award a friend actually spoke to him and said “Can you believe you won the award for best singer?” Cohen gave him a small chuckle and said “Yeah, it can only happen in Canada *hehe*”. That says a lot about him. Never a man who took his status or talent for granted.

This was the greatest performance I have ever observed. You skillfully navigated what David was doing here. So appreciate this video.

David had a cold when he did this live version. Paul Simon had said that Disturbed did a way better version than them. My dad was the one who sent me Disturbed's original music video because he knows I love Simon and Garfunkel's version. My dad is 73 years old and sent me this version 2 years ago. It's now my favorite version.

I've been obsessively watching reactions to this, dozens now, and yours is the first I've seen explicitly mention the jazz element and the gestures. Superb, informative video. Thank you.
